Our Story
A Legacy Built on Craftsmanship: The Early Days of Doyle Construction
Beginning in 1915 J.J. Doyle was a partners with a mason and a plasterer, running a company named Doyle Thomas and Christensen. During the early 1900s they built several large schools in the Edmonton and Calgary areas. After World War 1 J.J. Doyle continued in business until the 1930s depression at which time he moved to Vancouver with two of his oldest sons and established J.J. Doyle and Sons Construction Ltd.
This company specialized in renovations, particularly churches, commercial buildings and hotels. J.J. Doyle and Sons was disbanded when the sons joined the armed forces during World War 2.
After the war, in 1946, Doyle Construction Co. Ltd. Was incorporated by J.J. Doyle and his eldest son, Elmer Doyle. In 1950 Elmer Doyle was joined by three of his brothers; Murray, Frank and Norbert.
We specialized in new construction of schools, churches, small hotels, warehouses and commercial buildings. In the 1960s the company expanded its base by including utility works and larger sized contracts. By the early 1970s, Chris and Terry joined the company contracting large commercial and industrial projects.
Post-War Growth: The Incorporation of Doyle Construction
Shifting Focus: Custom Homes and Family Expansion
Searching for a community to raise his growing family, Chris moved to Vancouver Island and began living and building in Qualicum Beach. By the early 2000s Chris was joined by his partner Aline, and their two sons, Matt and Jonny. Expanding in to condominium and commercial developments as well as bespoke custom homes, Doyle Construction has been a huge part of building Qualicum Beach. Many of the buildings in town including phase two of the Town Hall, Villa Rose, Villa Lila and the Qualicum Beach Inn were contracted and built by Chris and his sons.
